Lane Closures Implemented During Street Project In Columbia

COLUMBIA, MD — A construction project designed to improve driver, bicyclist and pedestrian safety in Columbia has started and will require lane closures.

The project calls for the installation of stop signs on the northbound and the southbound approaches of Freetown Road at Quarterstaff Road, transforming the intersection into a four-way traffic stop.

The intersection will be reconstructed as a raised intersection, ultimately creating a multi-way stop control raised juncture. Weather permitting, this portion of the project should wrap up by late August 2026.

Signs will be posted in the area to alert drivers of the reconfiguration and new traffic pattern at the intersection. Flagging operations will be in place to direct the flow of traffic through the work area as temporary lane closures will be required during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
