HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A former Howard Community College student took the stage Tuesday in Washington, D.C., playing guitar with music star Lizzo. The Baltimore native performed at Capitol One Arena and told NBC Washington before the concert that she hoped the experience would end up becoming her "big break."

ā€œI’m calm right now, but on the inside I’m like, ā€˜I can’t wait for tonight,ā€™ā€ Jordan Waters said beforehand.

Waters started playing guitar when she was 11 and has been singing all her life. She had sent an audition tape to Lizzo's team when Waters learned that one of her mentors who was supposed to play on Lizzo's tour couldn't. She practiced for days before composing her audition tape, which obviously paid off. She also said she hoped to become an inspiration for young Black girls like her.
