Long Reach Students Present Broadway Production Of Disney's Musical 'Frozen' April 20-23
Students at Long Reach High School won a national contest allowing them to present Disney's Broadway musical "Frozen."
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Sisters Elsa and Anna, along with Olaf and others, will take the stage in Long Reach High School's production of Broadway's "Frozen."
Long Reach High School in Columbia happens to be one of only 50 high schools in the nation granted the rights to produce the Broadway show at the high school level. The school's theater director, Marla Blasko, said "Frozen Jr." - an abridged version - was the only option available for quite some time so she put off pursuing the production.
“'Frozen' is a big show that requires the right cast and a lot of resources. I wanted to wait until we were in a position to do the Broadway version and really do it right,” she said.

In June 2022, Blasko learned about a nationwide contest for high schools where the prize happened to be exclusive rights to produce the full Broadway version of the show along with free access to the "Frozen" digital script and score, according to the Howard County Public School System.
Organized by the Educational Theatre Association, Disney Theatrical Group and Music Theatre International, the contest required high schools to submit an online application detailing their vision for the production and how it would engage the school and local community under the theme of “Love is an Open Door.”

Blasko compiled an application that mapped out her approach, which apparently resonated with the contest judges because in August 2022, she was notified that Long Reach was the sole winner in Maryland.
"Frozen" will be presented in the Long Reach High School auditorium April 20-22 at 7 p.m. and April 23 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at hcpss.booktix.com for $11 or at the door for $12.
