Man Slices Elderly Woman's Neck While Out For A Walk: Police

Police are searching for the man they say assaulted an 80-year-old woman in Columbia who was walking at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

COLUMBIA, MD — An 80-year-old woman out for an early morning walk Wednesday had her neck cut by a stranger who came up behind her, assaulted her, then fled. The incident occurred in the 7000 block of Cradlerock Way in the Owen Brown area at approximately 6:30 a.m. The woman was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma where she was listed in stable condition.

The man did not say anything to the victim or take anything from her, according to Howard County police officers. Detectives are working to determine a motive in the case. The man has been described as being in his 20s with a thin build.

Police urge people to be aware of their surroundings and to consider walking outdoors with a partner with appropriate social distancing.
