Maryland's Best School Districts: New Rankings Released

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Maryland may have some issues — a transportation network and infrastructure in need of upgrades, a high tax rate, and a high cost of living — but there is one thing we have going for us and that is a stellar education system. Maryland routinely ranks near the very top of the best educated states and data compiler Niche has ranked the states's best school districts for 2019.

The rankings were released this week as part of the website's 2019 K-12 rankings. Howard County Public Schools is the No.1 school district in the state. Niche ranked a total of 15 school districts in Maryland.

Montgomery County, Frederick County, Worcester County and Carroll County schools closed out the top five spots in the state.

Here are the top school districts in Maryland that received a minimum Niche grade of B:

• Howard County Public Schools
• Montgomery County Public Schools
• Frederick County Public Schools
• Worcester County Public Schools
• Carroll County Public Schools
• Calvert County Public Schools
• Harford County Public Schools
• Queen Anne's County Public Schools
• Washington County Public Schools
• St. Mary's County Public Schools
• Anne Arundel County Public Schools
• Talbot County Public Schools
• Caroline County Public Schools
• Baltimore County Public Schools
• Garrett County Public Schools

According to Niche, the Jericho Union Free School District in Jericho, New York, is the best school district in the country overall. With an overall Niche grade of A+, the district received a grade of A+ in academics, teachers, clubs and activities, college prep and health and safety. In the category of diversity, Niche awarded the school district a B+.

To arrive at these rankings, Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as test scores, college data and ratings collected from Niche users. (You can read more about the methodology here.)
