Mercury Spill on Gorman Road Reported

First responders ask people to use extra care around Savage as Howard County crews tend to spill.

SAVAGE, MD – Drivers should use extra caution in a section of Gorman Road Monday afternoon due to a hazardous materials situation, officials advised.

First responders were assisting a resident in the 9400 block of Gorman Road who spilled a small amount of mercury, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

Mercury is an element that is liquid at room temperature but if heated, can become a toxic, odorless gas.
