Delays Expected in Downtown Columbia by Merriweather

COLUMBIA, MD – Drivers are encouraged to avoid US 29 and the downtown Columbia area Thursday evening because a major country star will be in town.

Kenny Chesney is performing at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., while doors open at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Drivers are advised to take alternate routes after 3 p.m. because "significant delays" are expected due to the concert, according to police.

Here is the traffic alert from the Howard County Police Department: "Expect significant delays in the area of Merriweather Post Pavilion this Thurs., May 19 during the Kenny Chesney concert. If possible, drivers should avoid Route 29 and Downtown Columbia after 4 p.m. to avoid significant delays."
