New Fire Station Opens In Columbia
The Merriweather Fire Station No. 14 has officially opened in Columbia. It will serve the downtown area and offer fire and medical services.

COLUMBIA, MD ā A brand new fire station has opened in Howard County to better serve area residents. Located at 6025 Symphony Woods Rd., the new 6,800-square-foot fire station is a full service station offering both fire and EMT assistance.
Construction began on the fire station in March 2019 and a dedication ceremony was held recently. The Merriweather Fire Station has two apparatus bays, a kitchen, dining room, general use rooms, a command center that doubles as a community center for special public events and administrative offices.
"Our public safety needs have grown over the decades. Working together, we acted with a sense of urgency to build and open a new Merriweather Fire Station that will improve our emergency response time and save lives,ā said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball in a statement.

Howard County Fire Chief Christine Uhlhorn said the new station will serve the downtown Columbia area. Six career personnel will staff three shifts. Station 14 has one fire engine and one paramedic unit.
āIt took a lot of moving parts to make sure this project happened in a timely fashion, and we are
thrilled that this day has finally arrived,ā Uhlhorn said in a statement.
