Located at 7175 Oakland Mills Road, the new 14,000-square-foot facility will be the company’s third active location and the second Soldierfit location to offer a full mixed martial arts program.
Founded in Gaithersburg in 2008, Soldierfit, which currently records more than 2,500 members between its two locations, prioritizes character development and personal values above aesthetics and showmanship, according to its website. Soldierfit classes combine basic training techniques gleaned from the United States military with a functional fitness training approach that can be adapted to suit all fitness levels.

What really makes Soldierfit unique is the environment. It is an environment devoid of mirrors, and “selfies.” There is no walking around shirtless or scantly clad. The focus isn’t on who is the biggest, fastest or strongest; it’s about being there for your “Battle buddy” and taking an active role in the betterment of your community.
Pride, not ego is our mantra. Pride means that you have a great deal of love and respect for what you and your organization does. Ego means that you think you are better than everyone else, and we simply don’t tolerate that here. If you are looking for a facility where no one speaks to you, then we probably are not your best choice. However, if becoming apart of an extended family that is there to cheer for you in success and pick you up in failure, then Soldierfit is exactly what you are looking for.
The company will be offering pre-opening membership specials for new recruits, according to Recruitment and Retention Representative Diana Pesce. Troops interested in joining the ranks at Columbia will be able to join at no up-front cost and lower monthly rates. In addition to class and gym access, members will receive free monthly, personalized fitness assessments and nutrition seminars designed to help them set and attain clear health and fitness goals.
Since its 2008 beginning, Soldierfit has received multiple community and business development awards, most recently earning this year’s Entrepreneurial Success Award from the Maryland Small Business Administration. The company has also received national recognition from the U.S. News and World Report, which featured the company in a recent article titled “The Merits of Training Like a Soldier.”
