A man faces charges after allegedly pointing a gun at officers outside the Extended Stay America.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A man who pointed a handgun at police in a hotel parking lot in Howard County is in serious condition after an officer shot him, according to authorities. Now the man has been charged.

Terrell Ramont Carroll, 42, of Carroll Heights Avenue in Jessup, has been charged with assault, assault on a law enforcement officer and weapons violations, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Authorities allege Carroll pointed a handgun at police outside the Extended Stay America in the 8500 block of Washington Boulevard Sunday night, and officers used beanbag rounds to try to subdue him before shooting.

The incident began when emergency personnel were called to the hotel at 9:17 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities said a man in his 40s was "acting erratically in the lobby" and needed medical attention.

He was "very naked," a witness told Fox 45.

When first responders got there, the man showed that he had a handgun and left the lobby, according to police.

As he confronted police in the parking lot with the gun, an officer shot him in the leg, the Howard County Police Department reported.

Investigators said they recovered a handgun at the scene.

On Sunday, police said Carroll was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in stable condition with an injury that officials said was believed to be non life-threatening.

On Monday, police reported Carroll was in serious condition at shock trauma.

There were no other injuries, and the investigation was ongoing, police reported.

Private First Class Brian Meekins, a three-year veteran of the Howard County Police Department, was identified as the officer who shot Carroll. He has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.
