Atholton Park Playground Equipment Ready for Use

Upgrades at Columbia playground are designed to provide more shady spots for children.

Atholton Park has some new attractions available for children, the Howard County Department of Parks and Recreation reported over the weekend.

Howard County’s plan was to install shaded structures in response to “growing concerns of parents” about sun exposure and contact with hot surfaces at the playground, according to a request county officials filed with the state of Maryland for funding.

As part of an initiative to provide periodic systemic park upgrades, new playground equipment was installed at both Atholton Park in Columbia and Cedar Villa Heights in Jessup, according to the report.
