Route 100 was shut down after a CVS robbery and pursuit that involved gunfire, police said.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Police said a robbery at the Elkridge CVS Friday morning resulted in the arrest of two men from Washington, D.C. When the suspects attempted to elude police, a search ensued; parts of Route 100 and Snowden River Parkway were closed as authorities brought the suspects into custody.

One of the suspects allegedly showed that he had a weapon, at which point police said an officer shot him in the leg.

Jarkell Champion, 20, of Washington, D.C., was arrested about 30 minutes later. He was treated at the hospital and released, according to officials.

At 3:20 a.m., officials were notified that Oxycontin, Percocet and cash were stolen from the store.

Police said the vehicle was located immediately, and officers tried to conduct a traffic stop.

However, the suspects took off in the vehicle and jumped out after it hit a curb, police reported.

One officer saw Champion show what appeared to be a weapon, and he fired at the suspect, police said.

After about 30 minutes of searching, police said Champion, who had tried to leave the scene, was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment. He was released after receiving medical attention for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Both suspects were in the booking process in Howard County Friday morning, police said.
