Howard County Police Alert Residents To Scam Demanding Money Over The Phone
A scam targeting Howard County residents has popped up where the callers pretend to be police officers or deputies and demand money.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Residents should be aware of an ongoing phone scam where the caller pretends to be a representative of the Howard County Police Department or the Howard County Sheriff's Office and uses the name of a real officer or deputy to demand money for missed jury duty or an arrest warrant.
The Howard County Police Department has emphasized that this is a scam and that neither department or office would call a resident and demand payment over the phone.
"Hang up immediately and do not arrange payment. Do not give out any personal or financial information," the HCPD stated on social media.
