Police: Columbia Rape Suspect May Have Been in Area Last Week

The Howard County Police Department is asking for any video, images residents may have showing suspect.

Police say they have canvassed the area where a rape was reported earlier this week and are trying to get more information about the suspect.

In particular, authorities are asking for any surveillance video from the area of the Columbia Landing Apartments in the 8800 block of Tamar Drive.

On Wednesday morning, police said a rape occurred at a vacant unit in the apartment building.

The suspect was described as a black man with short dreadlocks (approximately 2 to 3 inches in length), possibly in his thirties, of medium complexion and medium build, according to police.

The victim said she recalled seeing the same man in the area in the last week, police reported.

Police are asking residents who may have seen a man matching his description in the last week or anytime before then to call 410-313-STOP.

Authorities are also seeking any private surveillance video which could have captured an image of the suspect. Currently, police say they don’t have a video or a sketch to use to find the suspect.

Since Wednesday’s rape off Tamar Drive in Columbia, authorities report that police have increased patrols in the area.
