Officer Fatally Shot Man with Knife in Columbia: Police
Police said officers responded to a call from a residence, where they found an armed individual in the driveway.

A man is dead after a police-involved shooting in Columbia Friday morning, according to the Howard County Police Department.
The individual who was shot was holding a knife in the 6400 block of Cardinal Lane, police reported.
Officers responded to the area at approximately 10:40 a.m. after someone called 911 and said a man with a knife was trying to kill him, according to the report.

When officers arrived, a man with a knife was in the driveway and he confronted police, the report said.
After one officer repeatedly ordered the armed individual to drop the knife and he refused, the officer shot him, police reported.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified, according to police.
There was nobody inside the residence, police said.
The officer involved in the shooting was an eight-year veteran of the Howard County Police Department, according to police. He will be placed on official leave pending the outcome of an investigation as is procedure, police reported.
