With Power Out, 8 Schools Closed in Howard County

Summer camps are canceled at schools experiencing power outages after storm, Howard County Public School System officials say.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The day after a tornado ripped through part of Howard County, officials say eight schools are without power and will be closed on Wednesday.

Howard High School will not have summer school on Wednesday, and these schools have no power and will not have camps on Wednesday either:

  • Glenelg High School
  • Howard High School
  • Manor Woods Elementary School
  • Marriotts Ridge High School
  • Rockburn Elementary School
  • Swansfield Elementary School
  • Triadelphia Ridge Elementary School
  • West Friendship Elementary School

Oakland Mills High School and the Applications and Research Laboratory will be open for summer school, and all administrative buildings within the Howard County Public School System will open on time.

Maintenance and facilities teams will make repairs and clean up debris as needed.

There were 4,298 people without power in Howard County as of 8:30 a.m., according to BGE.
