Prank 911 Calls Arrest, Youth Robbed In Park: Columbia Crime

Crimes in Columbia reported recently include a boy robbed of his backback, prank calls to 911 and more, police say.

COLUMBIA, MD — The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent crimes in Columbia. Arrests do not indicate convictions. There were two youths arrested for a robbery in a park, and a teen charged with making prank 911 calls, among other crimes, according to police.

Robbery arrest update

Police have arrested two more juveniles for an Oct. 22 robbery that occurred at Blandair Park in
Columbia. Police had responded to the park for a report that a boy was robbed of his backpack by three suspects, one of whom had a handgun. No one was injured. One accused robber, a 14-year-old boy, was arrested later that day and charged with armed robbery, robbery, assault, and theft. Police have since identified the two other suspects and arrested them. They are ages 14 and 10, both from Columbia, and both charged with armed robbery, robbery, assault, and theft.

Telephone misuse

Howard County police have charged a 14-year-old Baltimore boy with nine counts of
telephone misuse after investigators say he made a series of prank 911 calls throughout October. The calls included reports of gunshots at two schools and numerous other public places; false claims of hostage situations; and a request for an unnecessary ambulance. Police officers and/or EMT crews responded to every call.
