Reward In Columbia Football Player Shooting At $10K

A $10K reward is being offered for tips in the case of a Columbia football player who remains paralyzed after a party.

BALTIMORE, MD — A Columbia teen reportedly remains paralyzed from the waist down after he was shot in the back at a New Year's Eve party. Investigators say several party-goers recorded video and took photos with cell phones, and detectives would like to see them as they hunt for the shooter.

Lawrence "Larry" Aaron III, 19, is an Oakland Mills graduate who was attending the party while home from college. His parents have said their son, who was on a football scholarship, now has a bullet lodged in his spine.

He remains at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and as of Tuesday, WJZ reported he was waiting for a bed in a rehab facility.

His mother told the news station: "I just want him to be able to walk again."

Aaron had attended the party in Severn with friends after they saw it promoted on social media. Police reported at least 100 people were in attendance at the event, which was promoted on Snapchat and other social media.

Officers were called about 1 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, to the 7800 block of Bastille Road in Severn for reports of a large party underway and found Aaron with a gunshot wound to his back.

"...my son stepped in front of his girlfriend to shield her, and one of the bullets got him," Aaron's father told WBAL.

Investigators learned of a second victim, a 17-year-old boy who left the scene before police arrived. The teen was shot in the arm and driven to St. Agnes Hospital by a friend. The youth was treated for an injury that was not believed to be life-threatening.

Detectives are trying to identify the suspect(s) and motive.

Aaron is a sophomore at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, where he is on a full football scholarship, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up to support him.
