Ribbon Cutting, Tours Sunday For New Talbott Springs Elementary School In Howard County

A ribbon cutting and tours will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. for Howard County's news Talbott Springs Elementary School.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A ribbon-cutting event and tours will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. for the new Talbott Springs Elementary School.

The original one-story school building was replaced with an 88,229-square-foot two-story facility. The $31 million building has been designed to accommodate 587 students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. The layout is in an “H” design, which is unique to this school in Howard County, officials say.

Talbott Springs officials also are working toward achieving a U.S. Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver designation.

Guest speakers will include:

  • Michael J. Martirano, Ed.D., superintendent, Howard County Public School System
  • Calvin Ball, Howard County Executive
  • Antonia Watts, Howard County Board of Education member
  • Nancy Thompson, Talbott Springs Elementary School principal

Talbott Springs Elementary School is located at 9550 Basket Ring Rd. in Columbia.
