Robbery In Dobbin Parking Lot: Columbia Crime

Two business burglaries in the course of 10 minutes in Columbia are also being investigated as potentially related, police said.

COLUMBIA, MD — The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent cases in Columbia. Among them were two commercial burglaries being investigated as possibly related, a woman robbed in a parking lot as well as a slew of thefts from vehicles.

Cash was stolen from a bag in an unlocked garage in the 9500 block of Sweet Grass Ridge. The burglary was reported at 11:35 a.m. at Sept. 9.

A woman was robbed walking through a parking lot in the 6500 block of Dobbin Road at 11 a.m. on Sept. 9. A man approached her, took her purse and ran away. Nobody was injured in the robbery. The suspect was a 6-foot-tall white man wearing a tan baseball hat, dark jacket and tan pants.

There was a burglary attempt at 90+ Cycling, a bike shop in the 9100 block of Red Branch Road. An alarm sounded at the business, drawing police there at 9:44 a.m. on Sept. 9. Although the glass was partly shattered, it was still intact, and nothing was taken. Police said the suspect(s) did not get inside.

The front door of the Exxon was pried in the 10100 block of Little Patuxent Parkway at 3:38 a.m. on Sept. 8. Nothing was taken. The suspects were two men in dark clothing with their faces covered.

CVS was burglarized in the 5400 block of Lynx Lane minutes later, at 3:45 a.m. on Sept. 8. The suspects were also two men in dark clothing with their faces covered. Police are investigating whether this burglary was related to the one at the Exxon. The two businesses are less than 1.5 miles apart.

Thefts From Vehicles

Thefts were reported from multiple vehicles before 8 a.m. on Sept. 9, located in the 9600 block of West Window Way, Sea Shadow, Sweet Grass Ridge, Moonrider Lane, Morning Mews, Cold Star Court and Green Moon Path.

Windows were broken and items were taken from a vehicle in the 9400 block of Vollmerhausen Drive. The incident was reported at 5:34 a.m. on Sept. 9.

A vehicle was broken into in the 9500 block of Clocktower Lane, reported at 5:46 a.m. at Sept. 9. It was unclear whether anything was taken.

Credit cards and a purse were stolen from a vehicle in the 5600 block of Columbia Road at 6:37 a.m. on Sept. 8.

Items were stolen from a vehicle in the 5600 block of Vantage Point Road at 3:41 p.m. on Sept. 7.
