Robot Probed Package at Dorsey MARC Station: Officials

Authorities said suspicious bag contained bathroom supplies.

A robot helped determine that a suspicious package at the Dorsey MARC Station Tuesday morning was not hazardous, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

At 6:25 a.m., authorities began investigating after a commuter who saw a black trash bag on a bench in the train station’s waiting area dialed 911, the fire marshal reported.

Howard County police officers responded to the station, located at 7000 Route 100, where they spoke with Maryland Transit Administration personnel and determined that in the interest of public safety, the station would be evacuated and train service temporarily suspected, the report said.

State bomb squad technicians deployed a robot that x-rayed the item and determined it was a “misplaced black plastic trash bag containing bathroom supplies,” according to the report.

By 10 a.m., service had been restored on the MARC Camden line and the station had reopened, the fire marshal reported.
