Flood Warning In Howard County Issued

HOWARD COUNTY, MD— The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for several areas in central Maryland, including Howard County. The warning is in effect until 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

A flood warning means the flooding is imminent of occurring. Drivers who come upon roads covered in water of unknown depth should turn around; don't drown.

At 12:22 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said that emergency managers had reported there were road closures required in Frederick County and other parts of central Maryland.

The flood warning applies to the following:

• South central Carroll County
• Northern Anne Arundel County
• Howard County
• Northern Montgomery County
• Southeastern Frederick County
• Southwestern Baltimore County

The locations may experience flooding, according to the National Weather Service: Columbia, Germantown, Frederick, Elkridge, Damascus, Harry Grove Stadium, Ellicott City, Catonsville, Woodlawn, Randallstown, Eldersburg, Milford Mill, Arbutus, Ballenger Creek, Brooklyn Park, Mount Airy, Sykesville, New Market, Green Valley and Pumphrey.

The severe thunderstorm warning issued Wednesday night expired after storms moved through the region.

EXPIRED — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Anne Arundel, Howard and Baltimore counties. The warning is in effect until 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Radar showed a line of storms at 6:49 p.m. located from Lochearn to Laurel that was moving southeast at 25 mph, weather officials said. There may be 60 mph wind gusts, causing trees and large branches to fall. Localized power outages are possible, and unsecured objects may become projectiles.

These locations may be impacted, weather officials warned: Baltimore, Columbia, Severn, Annapolis, Crofton, Elkridge, Riviera Beach, Mayo, Naval Academy, Baltimore-Washington Airport, Severn River, South River, Fort Smallwood State Park, Gibson Island, Bodkin Point, Sillery Bay, Millers Island, North Point State Park, Sparrows Point and Pinehurst.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, people should go inside to stay safe from wind and lightning.

Do not drive underneath wooded areas until the threat has passed, as trees and branches may fall. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and localized power outages are possible, according to the warning.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 11 p.m. Wednesday.
