Six Howard County Students Win 2023 National Merit Scholars

A wave of National Merit Scholars have been named, which includes six students from Howard County who received corporation scholarships.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Six Howard County students have been named 2023 National Merit Scholars.

Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met the criteria of their scholarship sponsors.

  • Michael T. Duffy of Ellicott City intends to study mathematics in college. The Howard High School student received a National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship. Northrop Grumman Corporation, based in California, is a global corporation primarily serving the defense and electronic systems requirements of governments, commerce and industry in the U.S. and friendly nations around the world.
  • Grace L. Huang of Clarksville intends to study health care. The River Hill High School student also received a National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship.
  • Anshuta Beeram of Ellicott City intends to study medicine. The Glenelg High School student received a National Merit Ascension Scholarship. Ascension is a faith-based healthcare organization dedicated to transformation through innovation across the continuum of care.
  • Brian M. Wu of Ellicott City plans to student computer science. The Mount Hebron High School student also received a National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship.
  • Alexander Y. Yang of Ellicott City plans to student computer science. The Marriotts Ridge High School student received a National Merit 3M Scholarship. 3M is a worldwide manufacturer and gives scholarships to the children of employees.
  • Dora M. Zhou of Fulton intends to study computer science. The River Hill High School student received a National Merit Leidos Inc. Scholarship. Leidos is a global science and technology solutions and services leader working to solve global challenges in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil and health markets.
