Special Flower Delivery Brightens Columbia Seniors' Day
State Farm agent Alexander Brown of Columbia and his wife Brandi delivered hundreds of dollars worth of flowers to nursing homes.
COLUMBIA, MD — The coronavirus pandemic has taken its toll on many people, whether it's parents adjusting to working from home while homeschooling their kids to people finding themselves unemployed and unsure how to pay their bills. Residents of nursing homes have been struggling with not being able to see their loved ones.
State Farm agent Alexander Brown of Columbia and his wife Brandi hoped to lift the spirits of some of the residents at area nursing homes by personally delivering hundreds of dollars worth of flowers to them. The couple popped by Brighton Garden of Columbia and Sunrise of Columbia senior facilities to perk up their day.
"We wanted to support a local business and put smiles on faces. We couldn’t think of a better place than a nursing home to make someone’s day. They have been lonely with limited or no visitors allowed. We knew flowers would make their day," Brown told Patch. "They were so excited about the flowers. They went through and looked at who hadn’t had a visitor in a while and made the choices that way for handing them out. Each nursing home received 10 vases of flowers. It put a huge smile on our face knowing this was happening. We also did a gift card hand out to first responders this year. One of the workers at the nursing home received one of those from my office as well. They wanted to let me know that our good deeds were making an impact."
