Sweet Cascades Chocolatier In Howard County Celebrates Valentine's Day Opening 4th Shop

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — What started as a chocolate fountain catering company in 2004 quick blossomed into a chocolate shop with a store front in Ellicott City.

"We opened our chocolate shop in 2005 after seeing the love of chocolate during our catering events," Susan Whary, owner of Sweet Cascades Chocolatier, told Patch. She co-owns the business with her husband, Richard. "We've been making chocolates for almost 20 years."

The chocolatery has 11 employees on staff and stays "extremely busy" year-round, not just on the chocolate-loving holiday of Valentine's Day. The kitchen is located at its main location in Ellicott City.

"We have a variety of chocolates that are popular to everyone's liking and we offer unique chocolate creations," Whary told Patch.

All of the candy shop's employees are self taught and all products are handmade, Whary said. The most popular products, particularly for Valentine's Day, are truffles and chocolate dipped strawberries. Other yummies include caramels, malted milk balls and peanut butter cups.

On Feb. 10, the chocolate shop opened its fourth location inside Rainbow Florist at 370 Main St., Laurel. There's another shop in Columbia at 9170 Route 108 and Bendix Road, and a shop at Savage Mill Shop.
