I-95 Reopens After Tractor-Trailer Fire Near Route 100
A tractor-trailer carrying clothing caught fire Friday morning, resulting in hours of lane closures on I-95 south in Howard County.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD - A tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 95 Friday morning required extensive cleanup that prompted hours of lane closures. Firefighters, police and dumpsters were called to the scene.
As of 2:15 p.m., police said that all lanes had reopened, nearly eight hours after the incident began.
The fire initially occurred before 6:30 a.m., authorities reported.

At first, officials said that the blaze on I-95 south was extinguished; however, it reignited around 8 a.m.
Sparks from a blown tire started the fire, according to Maryland State Police, which reported all lanes on I-95 south were shut down before the Route 100 exit during the response.

The bulk of the fire had been knocked by 9 a.m., according to Howard County fire and rescue officials.
Piles of debris from the tractor-trailer were visible on the highway. It had been transporting clothes, officials said, and dumpsters were requested shortly before 10 a.m. to help clear the scene.

Nobody was injured in the blaze, police said, and cleanup continued through the morning.

Authorities advised there were major delays on I-95 south. Traffic on I-95 north was slow in the area as well.
By 9:30 a.m., traffic was getting by on the left shoulder.
After 12:30 p.m., police said the two left lanes had opened on I-95 south prior to Route 100.
Around 2:15 p.m., all lanes were open, according to police.
