Tuesday Designated As Day Of Prayer In Howard County

The moment of silence will last 8 minutes, 46 seconds, the length of time George Floyd was pinned to the ground per video of the arrest.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Residents of Howard County are invited to participate in a Day of Prayer Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Residents can remember George Floyd with a moment of silence for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Floyd's funeral will be held in Houston, Texas, Tuesday at 11 a.m.

“The killing of George Floyd demands justice, but it also demands that we never allow it to happen again,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “Too often we have seen these incidents come and go without any institutional change. This time it feels different and I am optimistic that progress will be made with unified support across political, racial and cultural lines. Howard County is one of this nation’s earliest and best model communities of diversity and inclusion, but even we are not immune from acts of hate.

Ball encouraged Howard County residents to watch Floyd's memorial service and "continue the thoughtful and peaceful discussion on how we move forward."
