Two Charged in Knife Incident at Oakland Mills Village Center: Police

Burglaries, gun falling from pants and other crimes were recently reported in Columbia, according to the Howard County Police Department.

The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent incidents in Columbia. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Two people were charged with assault and other offenses after a dispute that began at the Oakland Mills Village Center.

Police said that two men threatened an adult and a teen with knives at the village center in the 5800 block of Robert Oliver Place on the Fourth of July.

The suspects chased one of the victims to his residence in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road, where they broke a window in an attempt to get inside. They were unable to break in, and police arrested the suspects.

Both suspects—a 28-year-old man of no fixed address and a 20-year-old man from Stag Horn Path in Columbia—are charged with first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, concealing a dangerous weapon, fourth-degree burglary and home invasion.

The assault and attempted burglary were reported at 6:12 p.m. on Monday, July 4.

Other Crimes Reported in Columbia

A vacant apartment was accessed through an unlocked window on the ground floor. Nothing was reported stolen from the residence in the 8600 block of Cobblefield Drive. The burglary was reported at 8:38 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6.

The handle was broken after someone attempted to pry the back door open in the 10400 block of Waterfowl Terrace. The attempted burglary was reported before 11 a.m. on Monday, July 4. The suspect(s) did not get into the residence.

The windows of a portable trailer were broken in the 5300 block of Old Stone Court. The damage was reported after 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 3. Nothing was stolen.

A bicycle was stolen from an open garage in the 10200 block of Rutland Round. The theft was reported at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 2.

A 17-year-old from Elkridge was charged with possessing a firearm and concealing a dangerous weapon after police investigated allegedly suspicious activity in the 10300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway. As officers approached, the teen adjusted something in his waistband and a handgun fell to the ground. The teen was taken into custody around 5 p.m. on Friday, July 1.

Copper pipe was stolen from a building under construction in the 10200 block of Wincopin Circle. The suspect(s) cut through a plywood storage area to get to the pipe. The burglary was reported at 5:45 a.m. on Friday, July 1.
