US 29 Bridge Improvements Ahead for Columbia

Walkers and cyclists can look forward to a more secure, open and illuminated experience crossing from Oakland Mills to downtown Columbia.

COLUMBIA, MD — Improvements are coming to the US 29 bridge in Columbia, and county officials plan to share their proposals to enhance the crossing with the community.

Howard County transportation planners and public works personnel will present the designs for the US 29 pedestrian and bicycle bridge at a meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Lighting and security enhancements will be part of the improvements to create a "more attractive, open experience on the bridge," according to a statement from Howard County government.

The bridge connects Oakland Mills to downtown Columbia, and upgrades have already been made to the approaches on either side, the statement said.

The US 29 bridge improvement information session will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City.
