Use Your HCLS Library Card to Watch Free Movies With "Kanopy"

Howard County Library System Brings New Online Entertainment Resource to Customers.

With the motto of “thoughtful entertainment,” Kanopy, a new streaming resource now available to Howard County Library System customers, provides access to more than 30,000 movies. The extensive catalog includes films of unique social and cultural value, films that are often difficult to access elsewhere, as well as a diverse selection, with a wide array of world language films and films on race, LGBTQ cinema, and current affairs. Selections include:

  • Classic cinema and the Criterion Collection
  • Oscar winners and nominees
  • Independent films
  • Documentaries
  • World language films
  • Educational content such as The Great Courses
  • Kanopy Kids: a carefully curated selection for children aged preschool and up, including tv series, language learning videos, animated storybooks, anime favorites, and family films

Films can be streamed to any computer, television, mobile device, or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast or Roku. You must be connected to the Internet to watch films on Kanopy--you can’t download movies for offline viewing. You may also watch directly from your browser by visiting https://howardcounty.kanopy.com/

Each HCLS customer can watch up to 10 films per month. Play credits re-set on the first day of each month. Once you select a film, you have 3 days to view it as many times as you like without using another play credit.
