Volunteers Needed To Become Certified Tree Savers

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Volunteers are needed to become certified tree savers and undergo training to help identify and remove invasive vine species that can harm native trees on county parklands.

The next training will be May 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Howard Community College in Columbia in partnership with the Columbia Association, which has a weed warrior program.

Volunteers will learn first in a classroom session about plant identification and safety, then embark upon a field session where participants go outside and cut vines together. Both must be completed to become a certified tree saver.

Howard County Recreation and Parks Tree Savers Program launched in 2024.
