HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Volunteers are being sought to serve on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission. Student members also are needed and serve as non-voting members for a one-year term from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023. The deadline to apply is June 12.

"Each year, we honor the leadership, life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and continually recognize that his perspective is more important than ever,ā€ Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said. ā€œI encourage our young residents to apply for this position, so they, too, can be a part of this vital commission and build on the lessons of Dr. King and help improve the lives of others."

Established in 1985, the commission is comprised of 17 members (15 adults and two students) who encourage and coordinate appropriate activities and ceremonies throughout Howard County to honor the birthday, ideals and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The commission also aids local government and private organizations with respect to the observance of the holiday honoring the birthday of the late Dr. King.
