Weather Decision From HCPSS For Wednesday Feb 7 2018

The Howard County Public School System announced changes to the schedule for Wednesday, Feb. 7.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Public schools will be closed in Howard County on Wednesday, Feb. 7. School officials made the announcement Wednesday morning in an update to a previous decision.

School offices will be open, according to the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS). Central Office will open at 10:30 a.m., and liberal leave is in effect. Essential employees should check with supervisors for further direction.

All evening activities in schools, both school-sponsored and community-sponsored, are canceled. That includes high school athletic practices and games.

After 7:30 a.m., HCPSS tweeted that it was experiencing website outages but verified that schools were closed for students on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Howard County is under a winter weather advisory for snow, sleet and freezing rain.

A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to transition to freezing rain by 10 a.m., ending as rain late Wednesday afternoon, weather officials say.

Forecasters are calling for anywhere from a coating up to 1 inch of snow and sleet. The highest amounts of accumulation will be north and west of Interstate 95, weather officials say.

Roads may be icy, and drivers should anticipate slippery roads and limited visibility, the winter weather advisory states.
