When you hear the work "retirement" what images, thoughts, attitudes and emotions arise in you? If it's old people sitting around doing crochet and watching TV, I'm here to tell you that is the "old" view that is quickly being replaced by a "new" definition of retirement that is active, engaging and generative. I have been wracking my brain to come up with a new term and so have many of the experts because retirement today is not what it was for our grandparents and parents. We can be grateful for this.
The 2nd factor for having a successful retirement focuses on our attitude about retirement. This factor is defined as "your perception of what your next life stage will look like for you once you transition beyond your current job." This factor touches on the concept of aging and our views about growing older. There is a big difference between aging, which implies "feeling and acting older," and maturing.
