3 Critically Hurt In Gambrills Crash: Police

People from Brooklyn, Glen Burnie and Hagerstown were critically injured in a Gambrills crash, police say.

GAMBRILLS, MD — Three people were critically injured Wednesday when their car slammed into a utility police on Crain Highway in Gambrills, according to Anne Arundel County Police. A 2008 Chrysler Sebring driven by Edward John Schmidt, 45, of the 100 block of Forestdale Avenue in Glen Burnie crashed just after 12:30 p.m.

Authorities say Schmidt's car was southbound on Crain Highway (MD-3) near Church View Road in Gambrills when he lost control, the Sebring left the roadway, and struck a BGE pole. Schmidt and two passengers suffered critical injuries and were taken to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Police say the crash was caused by Schmidt's failure to remain in a single lane; speed does not appear to have contributed to the crash.
