ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Shaquille O'Neal's Big Chicken eatery will hold its grand opening Aug. 8 in Gambrills, marking the establishment's first standalone restaurant in Maryland.
The opening will take place from about 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1407 S. Main Chapel Way, inside the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre.
The celebration gets underway with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:45 a.m., and will be followed by a mix of giveaways and family-friendly activities through the afternoon.
Founded in 2018, Big Chicken features a menu that includes a mix of sandwiches, tenders and sides.
Organizers say the first 100 guests who line up before the kick-off will receive three free chicken tenders and four dipping sauces. Attendees will also be given a first taste of the brand's newest addition: Root Beer BBQ.
Josh Halpern, CEO of Big Chicken, praised the Gambrills location as "the right place" for the brand in a statement.
Echoing Halpern, local entrepreneur Pratik Patel described the site as being "the right fit to bring something new that matches its energy."
"Gambrills is a special place," Patel said. "We can't wait to serve BIG Smiles to guests experiencing Big Chicken for the first time beyond the arena."
The Gambrills location follows the opening of Big Chicken at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore.
Big Chicken will be open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Gambrills. Doors stay open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
