5 Things I Learned About The Sun

Whatever could this pale awkward child learn about the sun? She looks like she's never even seen the sun before! Oh, you'd be surprised.

dHello Croftonians! Croftonites? Crofton dwellers? Which ever one you would like to call yourself.

Anywho, Hi.

So its summertime in case you have been inside your house for the past three months and were unaware. I have been non stop outside since the last week of June. Not kidding. So i am 100% aware that the sun is bright and hot and it is very possible to put SPF 70 on your face and still get burnt. Very burnt. But that may just be because I am the palest person ever.

So being out in the sun for about a month without a break except for night time (and it is impossible to get sunburn at night mom, I don't need to put on sunscreen) I have figured out some pretty awesome ways to prevent third degree burns, (Although I do miss my bubble on my forehead named Bob).

1. Hats are your friend. I have named mine Jack. He is helpful when SPF 70 is not enough (Really?! When is SPF 70 not enough?!).

2. You really do need to reapply sunscreen. Its not just something torturous your mom does in front of your friends to embarrass you. It can actually stop the sun from making you look like a tomato. Crazy things that i learned at camp!

3. Laying out all day actually increases the chance of you getting burned. Who knew? Instead of laying out on the beach all day, or by the pool, try alternating between the sun and the shade. Doing a little bit every day is better. And again, I go back to the tomato thing. It's not cute.

4. Drink water/ Gatorade! It helps you not pass out. Another thing i learned at camp.

5. Enjoy summer!

I know number five goes without saying but sometimes stating the obvious is helpful for those of you who are over-thinkers.

So that's what I learned about the sun this summer. Jack and I are best friends. I always have SPF 70 in my bag (not that it always works... SPF 100? Do they even make an SPF that high?). I try to spend a lot of time in the shade and still get tan (Something that has yet to work but I'm not 100% sure I can get tan regardless. SPF 110? That still might not be enough. Curse my pale skin). My water bottle I got from camp is strapped to my bag constantly. And I had fun!

Yup, have a good rest of the summer. I will not mention that horrible thing that comes after summer.
