How To Put On Weight This Summer For Athletes

How to put on weight for athletes this summer.

I’m writing this because we’ve started to get a lot of people coming in saying they want to add some mass this Summer for  the Fall sports season.

Putting on size, not just in the Summer but any time involves keeping track of your calories. Here is a really simple way to start adding weight to your frame for athletes or anyone looking to get bigger.

Picture this, a pound is essentially 3,500 calories. The easiest way to add a pound a week is to add an extra 3,500 calories to your diet per week, or spread evenly throughout the week, 500 extra calories a day.

Most people, even if they don’t realize it have schedules and certain tendencies.

You’ll usually eat at the same time of the day and you’ll usually have the same thing throughout the week. If you want to put on weight I recommend keeping a food journal for at least seven days to record your food intake. Notice the patterns and then adjust your caloric intake from there. If you’re reading this and have no idea what I’m talking about, write down everything that you eat for a week and then bring that in to the store while I’m here and I can explain it and help you figure out what to eat to put the size on.

When I was in high school I would hear stuff like this but I wouldn’t listen, no one in high school listens. To accomplish this it really takes the parents and the children.

For the kids, you have to eat. There isn’t any way around this, size doesn’t grow on trees, it comes from taking in a lot more calories per day. Don’t expect to grow by playing video games all day and sleeping in until noon. You need to wake up at a reasonable time and you need to start eating as soon as you wake up or the equation just doesn’t work. Also, stay active this summer. There’s nothing that pisses a coach off more than when his or her athletes show up out of shape for the season, if you need help with a summer routine I can help with that too.

For the parents, there has to be good foods in the house for them. A calorie is not a calorie, what I mean by this is that if the house is loaded with junk food that is full of bad calories, they’ll put some weight on but it will be bad weight, not the weight they need to add strength or good size. I suggest a lot of good carbohydrates like brown rice and sweet potatoes along with a nice amount of protein and some good fats like natural peanut butter. Peanut butter sandwiches on wheat bread are great for adding size and very easy to make.

So now that we know that adding around 500 extra calories a day means one pound per week, what if you added let’s say 5,000 extra calories a day, that would mean an extra ten pounds per week right? Unfortunately not. I wouldn’t try to add more than two pounds a week, in the beginning you might put on some extra weight because your body isn’t used to the extra calories, but aim for one to two pounds a week.  If you start now there’s no reason why you can’t put on a solid ten to twenty pounds by the time school starts back up in the fall.

As far as products, there are ‘mass gaining’ shakes that we sell that make this whole process much easier. The best value is the Super Mass Gainer.

If you like this message please forward it to your friends, I write about health and fitness for other places in the county and state but to show my appreciation to my Crofton customers I’m going to wait a few weeks before I publish this article elsewhere, so take action now and put on some serious size this summer for your fall sport, just make sure when you get that D-1 scholarship that you come in and give us a good testimonial for the store.
