Inspiration came from Columbia family whose three-year-old son has kidney complications
LUTHERVILLE, Md. –To celebrate National Kidney Month, Charlie’s Bar at Mangia (81 Main St.) in Annapolis will hold a special fundraising event, Thursday, Mar. 26, from 5 to 9 p.m., to benefit the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD).
Admission is free and the evening will feature raffle prize drawings for gift certificates and a silent auction featuring Bowie Baysox tickets, sports memorabilia from Stadium Gallery, a Delmarva Sports package, dining and shopping packages and other surprise items.
A portion of the evening’s food and beverage sales and all raffle and auction proceeds will directly support NKF-MD’s patient services, education and research efforts.

Charlie’s Bar Owner Charlie Priola is hosting the event on behalf of friend and business colleague, Colin Mcguinn, the general manager of Stadium Gallery whose three-year-old son, Wyatt, has been living with kidney complications since he was a fetus.
Mcguinn’s wife, Ashley, was about 20 weeks pregnant when Wyatt was diagnosed with an obstruction to his right ureter.

“This has had quite the impact on our lives,” Ashley Mcguinn said. “I have to stay home with Wyatt because he does not have the best immune system.”
“Every fever is never just a fever. I have to make sure he gets enough fluids during the day, make sure he takes his medicine daily to prevent infections,” she added. “I have to empty Wyatt’s bladder every four hours with a catheter.”
Wyatt will always have to be followed by doctors and have to have tests done to monitor his one good kidney. He also will have to be on various medicines for the foreseeable future.
“After what my son has gone through and how close I’ve become with the Kidney Foundation, I am thrilled Charlie’s Bar is providing the venue to help us raise funds and awareness,” Colin Mcguinn said.
