Crofton Uber Passenger Dies In Fiery Crash: Police
A Bowie driver appears to have caused a fiery crash that killed a Crofton Uber passenger, Anne Arundel County Police say.

GAMBRILLS, MD — A Bowie driver appears to have caused a fiery crash that killed a Crofton man who was a passenger in an Uber vehicle, Anne Arundel County Police say. The accident, which also sent three people to area hospitals, happened about 1 p.m. Thursday on Crain Highway (MD-3) southbound at Annapolis Road (MD-175) in Gambrills.
Investigators say a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Heather Ferns Boyer, 44, of the 2900 block of Blueberry Lane in Bowie, was southbound on Crain Highway when it struck a 2007 Toyota Corolla which was eastbound on MD-175. The Toyota, which was operating as an Uber, caught fire from the impact of the crash, police say.
The Toyota's driver — Mohamed G. Elsdeg Ahmed, 40, of the 1300 block of Farrara Drive in Odenton — was able to escape the vehicle and was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious injuries. Ahmed's rear-seat passenger — Raymond Quartuci, 28, of the 2600 block of Tallwind Court in Crofton — was declared dead at the scene. His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Boyer and her passenger — Katherine L. Goodman, 62, of the 1o0 block of Hammarlee Road in Glen Burnie — were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash was Boyer's failure to remain in a single lane and making an unsafe lane change, police said. The Traffic Safety Section is handling the crash investigation and charges, if any, will be after review by the State’s Attorney.
