Gambrills House Fire Causes $900K Damage, One Hurt

Five people have been left without a home and one person was injured in a $900K house fire Sunday in Gambrills, officials said.

GAMBRILLS, MD — One person was injured, and five people are without a home following a fire Sunday afternoon in Gambrills that caused $900,000 damage, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Firefighters were called about 1:25 p.m. to a house fire in the 700 block of Cyprian Court, located in a community off of Saint Stephen’s Church Road.

The first firefighters on the scene found two vehicles were on fire inside an attached garage with flames spreading into the first- and second-floor living areas of the house, and extending across the home’s ceilings. Additional fire units were requested to help supply water for firefighters since the home is located in a community without public water. About 60 firefighters from Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties, as well as the City of Annapolis and Fort Meade, brought the fire under control in about an hour, officials say.

Investigators have determined that the fire was started accidentally while one of the homeowners and an acquaintance were working on a car in the garage. The homeowner discovered the fire and was able to evacuate the home's occupants before firefighters arrived.
