Gambrills, Pasadena Rush-Hour Crackdown Yields 39 Citations For Distracted Driving

Anne Arundel County Police pulled over about 70 vehicles in the Crofton, Gambrills, Pasadena areas for speeding, cell phone use and more.

CROFTON, MD — Nearly 70 drivers were pulled over by police during Monday's morning rush hour as part of a crackdown on distracted and aggressive driving in both the Crofton/Gambrills area, as well as the Pasadena/Severna Park area. The targeted patrols used both marked and unmarked cars to spot drivers on their cell phone and other infractions, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

In all, officers made 69 traffic stops, and issued 39 citations, 61 warnings and seven equipment repair orders for offenses ranging from talking/texting on a cell phone to unsafe lane changes and speeding. Also, four traffic arrests were made for warrants and driving on a suspended license, police say.

Nine commercial vehicles were stopped by officers, who conducted North American Standard truck inspections with certified truck inspectors. As a result, 14 violations were found that resulted in two commercial vehicles placed out of service.

This effort is a continuation of stop targeting aggressive and distracted drivers, as well as overweight and unsafe commercial truck traffic, police said in a news release.

The department has had several rush-hour crackdowns this year to target distracted and aggressive driving cases, which police linked to increased crashes in Anne Arundel County. Drivers are reminded that any distraction can increase the chances of a crash and ask drivers to “get your head out of your apps” and concentrate on the road.
