Hanukkah Begins Sundown Tuesday, Local Events Planned

Celebrate Hanukkah with these events in Anne Arundel County.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, begins at sundown Tuesday and goes until Dec. 24. The Jewish holiday commemorates the story of the Maccabean Revolt against Syrian rulers in present day Israel 2,300 years ago.

Here’s a look at some celebrations and observances in Anne Arundel County:

  • Chanukah Wonderland at Westfield Mall, Tuesday, December 16, at 5 PM Chanukah Delectables by JCrafts (Create your own beautiful chocolate Chanukah treats for you to take home for your family or to give as a gift)
    *Hot latkes and Donuts
    *Giant Menorah Lighting
    *Chanukah Crafts for kids
    *Music, Friends and more
    Celebration will take place in front of H&M at the West Wing near Macys.
  • Car Parade and Menorah Lighting at City Dock, Sunday, December 21, at 4:30 p.m., Safeway parking lot, 2635 Housley Road in Annapolis Car Parade - 4:30pm at Safeway; Menorah Lighting - 5:30pm at City Dock(near the Alex Haley Memorial.
