Liquidation sales will begin as early as January 12 at the 2 Kmart stores closing in Maryland.
CROFTON, MD — Two Maryland Kmart stores will close this spring as Sears Holdings plans to shut down more than 100 stores in the new year, the company announced Thursday. Of the closures, 64 Kmarts will be closed, and 39 Sears stores. The stores are expected to close between early March and April and liquidation sales will begin as early as Jan. 12, the company said in a statement.
"We will continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members," the company said in its statement.
In Maryland, the Kmart stores at 1647 Crofton Centre in Crofton and at 301 Tilghman Road in Salisbury will close.

It's the latest bad news for the company, and for brick and mortar stores across the region. In November, Sears Holdings announced that it would close another batch of stores 2018, and an Eastpoint Mall store at 7885 Eastern Blvd. in Baltimore was on the list. As part of the closures, Sears said it informed associates at 45 Kmarts and 18 Sears that the stores would be closing in late January 2018. You can see a full list of the stores closing here.
