Powersports of Crofton Burglary Suspect Arrested

CROFTON, MD — A Baltimore man was charged with burglary for reportedly stealing a dirt bike from Powersports of Crofton, police say. Just after 3 a.m. Saturday, an Anne Arundel County Polcie officer was checking on businesses in the 700 block of Route 3 in Crofton when he saw a Honda van with a dirt bike hanging out of the side door.

When the driver of the van — later identified as Markelo Armon Carr, 19, of Baltimore — saw the officer in his patrol vehicle, he drove into Leo’s RV Lot and attempted to hide. Authorities say the officer followed the van into the lot, and the van began to flee at a high rate of speed, striking two RVs in the parking lot.

The officer, believing the van's driver was involved in a burglary at one of the businesses in the area, activated his emergency equipment and followed Carr onto Route 3. As the officer followed the van, another officer checking the area saw a large glass window at Honda Power Sports, 747 Rt. 3 N, broken out with obvious signs a burglary occurred, police say.

As the fleeing van approached the intersection of Bel Air Drive and Route 301 in Prince George's County, it struck a curb and stopped. Carr jumped out of the van, but was caught after a brief foot chase, police say. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and charged with burglary.

An employee of Honda Power Sports called to the scene identified the dirt bike as belonging to the business and said it was taken during the burglary.
