SUV Side-Swipes County Police Car in Crofton

Anne Arundel County Police are searching for an SUV that reportedly struck a patrol car during a Crofton traffic stop, then fled.

CROFTON, MD — Authorities are look for an SUV that reportedly side-swiped an Anne Arundel County Police patrol car early Sunday in the Crofton area and kept on going.

An Anne Arundel County Police officer was conducting a traffic stop about 1:20 a.m. Sunday in a marked police vehicle on the shoulder of Route 3 South at Carver Road. While the officer was seated in the patrol car, a dark-colored SUV struck the police vehicle and continued southbound on Route 3.

The suspect vehicle side-swiped the front driver’s-side door and quarter panel/bumper.

A police helicopter and patrol cars searched the area for the suspect vehicle, but were unable to locate it. Neither the officer nor the driver in the traffic stop were hurt, police say.

The suspect vehicle should have damage to its passenger side.
