Apple Pie Leads To Assault, Attempted Murder Charges Against Dundalk Man: Police

A Dundalk man faces attempted murder charges along with kidnapping, assault and other charges after arguing with a friend about apple pie.

DUNDALK, MD — An argument over a slice of apple pie led to an assault and attempted murder. According to the Baltimore County Police Department, 28-year-old Eugene Arnell Thomas and a female friend were in a car when they began arguing over the pie.

According to charging papers, Thomas hit the woman several times and fired a gun at her Saturday morning as they were driving on Eastern Avenue toward Essex.

The Dundalk Eagle reports the woman told Thomas she wanted to get out of the car after he hit her. She tried escaping when the car slowed down, but Thomas pulled her back in and kept driving.

She tried to escape a second time at the Eastern Avenue ramp to I-695. That's when Thomas pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot her, then fired one shot. The woman told officers Thomas said, "You're lucky I love you" and threatened to go to her house and murder her child.

Thomas confiscated the woman's phone but she was able to flee the vehicle and flag down a motorist for help. Police later arrested Thomas and found the woman's phone in his possession. He admitted to preventing her from leaving the vehicle and firing a round from his gun, which was found in his vehicle along with marijuana.

Thomas has been charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder as well as kidnapping, first- and second-degree assault and other offenses.
