
In an interview, Katherine Scott, a self-described “master gardener”, asserted her belief that “gardening is what we need to do right now. “ She described the importance of teaching children, especially those growing up in urban and suburban communities, how to start gardens and grow their own food. Scott and Baltimore County 4-H educator Nia Imani Fields work with the children in the club to help them understand their impact on the environment. The community garden project seemed like a great way to reinforce these lessons.
