Former Dundalk Pastor Charged With Sexually Abusing Student

A former pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Dundalk has been arrested and charged with numerous sex crimes involving a minor.

DUNDALK, MD โ€” A former pastor has been charged with numerous sexual assault charges involving a student. Police are concerned that there may be other victims and ask that if there are, that they will "have the courage to come forward."

Cameron Shane Giovanelli, 42, served at Calvary Baptist Church in Dundalk when the incidents occurred. Giovanelli now lives in Orange Park, Fla. Baltimore County Police have charged with with the sexual abuse of a minor, perverted practice and fourth degree sexual offense stemming from illegal sexual contact he had with the student between January and August of 2007.

According to the police department, the Giovanelli began abusing the then 17-year-old student by forcing her to kiss him daily on church property, in school offices and other locations. The victim reported the abuse to the police in May 2018. After an investigation, charges were filed and an arrest warrant was served. Giovanelli voluntarily turned himself in to police and was released on his own recognizance at an initial bail hearing under the condition that he not have any contact with minors.

Giovanelli served at the Dundalk church from 2003 to 2014 and police are concerned that there are additional victims. Anyone with information or was victimized by Giovanelli is asked to contact detectives with the Baltimore County Police Crimes Against Children Unit at 410-853-3650.
