Suicidal Man Shot in Wrist After Swinging Knife: Police

Officials said that man was holding butcher's knife on Wise Avenue drawbridge.

A man in his early 20s was hospitalized after an officer shot him in the wrist on the Wise Avenue drawbridge Tuesday morning, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.

Officials originally responded to a call about a suicidal person after 5 a.m., police said. They found the man on the Wise Avenue bridge with a butcher’s knife to his throat, police reported.

“An officer talked with the man and was able to get him to get off of the wall and put the knife on top of the wall,” police said. “However, the man remained in front of the wall and was highly agitated.”

When a beanbag gun and at least one taser were ineffective in subduing the man, he approached the officers with the knife, and police said one officer shot him in the wrist.

He was taken to an area hospital, according to police, who said his condition was unknown.
